PITTSBURGH (KDKA/AP) — A child is in critical condition after it was abused.

Police say a 20-month-old child was taken to Children’s Hospital Friday, suffering from subdural hematomas and a lacerated liver.

Raymond Allen Matteson, 35, of Smithfield was taken to the Fayette County Jail and charged with aggravated assault.

The child belonged to Matteson’s girlfriend.

A police affidavit says another man called 911 after seeing Matteson shake the boy then splash him with water in an attempt to revive him.

Matteson is being held on a $250,000 straight cash bond.
